New Hampshire Vermont: Atlas of Historical County Boundaries
Published in Hardcover by Charles Scribners Sons/Reference (February, 1994)
Average review score:

Alabama : Atlas of Historical County BoundariesIf you're interested in this sort of thing as I am this book could be of great value however the price is unreal. I have a CD that does much the same for the entire country at a third the price of one state however this book is MUCH more accurate and shows county boundaries that only occured for as little as three days. The CD is also easier to use. That said I'll likely ask for the book as one of those Christmas presents I wouldn't buy for myself.

A Piece of the World
Published in Paperback by Bison Bks Corp (September, 2001)
Average review score:

Mildred Walker is simply one of the best authors ever...Mildred Walker wins my heart again with her story, "A Piece of the World." While my favorite is "Winter Wheat", this book stirs the heart. I want to reach in there and solve all the problems that are going on in the story, but alas, I cannot, so I eagerly turn the pages to see how Mildred Walker spins the story and am satisfied with the results. I am going to order more of her books and absorb myself in them.

Six Haunted Hairdos

Average review score:

Six Haunted HairdosSix Haunted Hairdos is the sequel to Seven Spiders Spinning. It is about to rival clubs, The Copycats (boys) and The Tatletails (girls). In this book the members of The Copycats believe in ghosts and state so in class. The Tatletails decide to play a joke on The Copycat's "silly" belief and give The Copycats their idea on girls thrown at them. This joke turns out to be less fake then they thought, as The Tatletails and The Copycats meet real ghosts and have to unite the ghosts, and set aside their club differences, before it's too late and Hamlet, their town, becomes filled with ghosts. This book is exciting and portrays some very interesting veiws on the rivalrey between boys and girls.

Soup in Love

Average review score:

More TroublePretty good. It's near Valentine's Day and everybody's in love. Even Janice Riker. Like the other ones though Rob always gets in trouble by listening to Soup. (By the way, did you know that Rob has the exact name as the author?)

Soup on Ice
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (August, 1987)
Average review score:

It Was GreatI thought that Soup on Ice was a good book but there were some parts that got really boring. But overall I liked the book. I thought the beggining was good, middle was boring, and the end was fun. I liked the beggining when Soup made Rob shovel and was acting like he was a shoveling coach. The middle was kind of boring but I liked when they sang songs together. I liked the end when Soup, Rob, and Mr.Dubinski were on the sleigh. I liked it when they ran in to the Christmas tree, I thought that was funny. This book is good and it's one of those you don't want to put it down. I liked this book and would recomand it.

The Traveler's Guide to Western New England and the Connecticut River Valley: Vermont, New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts, and Connecticut
Published in Paperback by Random House Trade Paperbacks (May, 1994)
Average review score:

Indisensable guide to the areaI use this guide frequently to plan short vacations around
the Connecticut River Valley. It provides a good balance
of description of the land and river; a well-chosen set
of sights to see, including many that are off the beaten
path; and reliable reviews of inns. The idea of centering
a guidebook on a river valley appeals to me.
A trustworthy source of information.

The Unofficial Guide to Ethnic Cuisine and Dining in America
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (June, 1999)
Average review score:

Great familiarization trip through the world's cuisine!I get hungry whenever I refer to this wonderful book! The writing is lively and full of interesting facts, and the descriptions help to differentiate between related cuisines. If you are a picky eater you'll be able to tell what kind of food appeals to you just by reading about typical ingredients, cooking styles and nutritional trends. Simple recipes are included, excellent for someone who is first trying to cook an ethnic cuisine at home. A "How to Eat" section advises on customs and protocol, but as the authors say, if chopsticks aren't for you you can always ask for a fork! Use this book to prepare before you try a new kind of restaurant and you'll be familiar with the menu terms and be able to order with ease!

Vermont Hero: Major General George J. Stannard
Published in Paperback by White Mane Publishing Co. (27 April, 2001)
Average review score:

A Vermont Civil War HeroThis is a good, solid book about Major General George Stannard, given the fact that the author did not locate any primary sources written by him other than military reports. Although the author did conduct research in Special Collections at the University of Vermont, he did not consult the William Wells Papers; Wells hand a great hand in replacing Stannard as Collector of Customs for Vermont and Wells was very open in his correspondence why Stannard must be replaced. This action tarnished Stannard's reputation and led to his bankruptcy and self-imposed exile from the state.
Stannard is most important for his role as the commander of the Second Vermont Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg and for conducting a flank attack the helped to destroy Pickett's/Pettigrew's assault on the third day of the battle. Stannard's military career climaxed with his capture of Fort Harrison outside Richmond in September 1864. He was there wounded and lost an arm, which ended his military career. Stannard is the highest ranking Vermonter to fight in the Civil War (Baldy Smith was a Regular) and his career is familiar to those people interested in the state's participation in the war and particularly with those interested in Gettysburg. This is a long overdue biography and is capably done, given the dearth of primary sources.
